Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
Nitrous oxide is used to keep you calm during a procedure while you remain awake. It tends to lessen anxiety, increase your pain threshold, reduce the gag reflex, and make time seem to pass more quickly. The calming and numbing effects work quickly, and the gas is inhaled through the nose, so there are no needles required.
Oral Sedation
Depending on your dental procedure and level of fear, your dentist may recommend an oral sedative. These may come in pill or liquid form and are simply taken orally prior to a dental appointment. You should find yourself significantly relaxed while remaining awake and able to communicate during your procedure.
