Shielding Your Smile & Your Health

In order to maintain good oral health, routine brushing and flossing alone may not cut it. If you play sports, or clench or grind your teeth during sleep, dental appliances can help preserve and protect your teeth and oral structures.

At Avery Dental, the mouth guards we offer are carefully designed to fit perfectly over your teeth to help protect the health of your oral cavity.

If you snore, it could be a sign of sleep apnea, a condition that causes pauses in breathing during sleep. We can offer dental appliances that alleviate snoring and disruptions in breathing, allowing you to get a better night's sleep.

Snoring & Sleep Apnea Appliances

Snoring is caused by the relaxation of throat tissues which causes the airway to be restricted. This creates the sound of snoring as oxygen is forced through the narrow airway. If you frequently snore while you sleep, not only can it be disruptive, it may also be a sign of sleep apnea.

If you have been diagnosed with sleep apnea, it means that your throat tissues over-relax and obstruct the airway. Your brain will be forced to wake you up to breathe. Sleep apnea increases your risk of health conditions, including coronary artery disease, heart attacks, heart failure, and strokes.

To treat snoring and sleep apnea, your dentist may recommend a dental appliance. These appliances are designed to fit snugly on your teeth and open the airway by adjusting the position of your tongue or jaw. This allows for more space in your throat, and keeps the upper airway from collapsing while you sleep.

Custom-Fitted Mouth Guards

Our dental professionals can create a custom-made mouth guard that will fit snugly over your teeth to protect them from becoming damaged.

Sports Guards

If you wear a mouth guard while playing sports, you can significantly reduce the risk of damaging your teeth or jaw when you experience a blow to the head or face. A mouth guard acts as a barrier between your teeth and the soft tissue of your mouth to protect your smile and keep you out of the dental chair.

Night Guards

A mouth guard can help protect your teeth from damage if you tend to grind them in your sleep. If you clench your jaw at night, a night guard acts as a protective barrier between your upper and lower teeth, and may even offer some pain relief.
